Interesting foray into iPhone development for HP. Check out the comments for raves and requests from calculator nerds.

I still have my HP-15c on my desk and use it almost every day. I am so much faster and more efficient in RPN. The amazing thing is that the price of a new iphone and this app is not so far off from the price for this calculator when it first came out…. (and is likely less then it would cost you on eBay today)

Kodak: A Thousand Words – A Tribute to KODACHROME: A Photography Icon

Kodak: A Thousand Words – A Tribute to KODACHROME: A Photography Icon

Kodak_ A Thousand Words - A Tribute to KODACHROME_ A Photography Icon-2.jpgThey say all good things in life come to an end. Today we announced that Kodak will retire KODACHROME Film, concluding its 74-year run.

It was a difficult decision, given its rich history. At the end of the day, photographers have told us and showed us they’ve moved on to newer other Kodak films and/or digital. KODACHROME Film currently represents a fraction of one percent of our film sales. We at Kodak want to celebrate with you the rich history of this storied film. Feel free to share with us your fondest memories of Kodachrome.

There are so many of my memories captured in Kodacrome, both ones that I lived in the slides that I have in my garage, prints of my childhood to the capturing of world events in National Geographic. There is a richness in the color and a character in the results that speaks to my soul in a way that I haven’t felt with my own digital work. This is not to say that NG shooters aren’t capturing the results still in mind blowing ways, just that I personally have not. A sad day for memories. I wonder if digital will have the lasting power…

If nothing else have a look at the slide show at the end of the article…

Please Enjoy – The Work of Ji Lee

What is a browser? was the question we (Google) asked over 50 passersby of different ages and backgrounds in the Times Square in New York. Watch the many responses people came up with.

This is a project by Google Creative Lab. Interviewer: Scott Suiter, Edited by Tristan Kneschke, Camera: Ji Lee

Watch it if you think people understand what the heck we are talking about

Another Angle

Behind the Scenes_ A New Angle on History - Lens Blog - NYTimes.com.jpg

There a many moments from history that have unfolded in my lifetime, not many have an image that is emblazoned so firmly in my head as the man standing in Tiananmen Square as the tanks rolled in. Behind the image above is a story of that iconic image from another angle…

Open Letter to Governor Brewer of Arizona

Governor Brewer,
I hope that you will reject the budget that was recently pushed though the state senate branch. To make further cuts into an already anemic commitment that this state has made to our children, is not only wrong in the short term but will have long term consequence to the financial welfare of our state. To make our children bear the brunt of this recession will result in a workforce that is further eroded in the skills and talents that companies will look for when making decisions about moving and growing in our state. To create a population that is educationally crippled will do nothing for our states future and growth. We can not expect to attract talented individuals that might start companies here to sacrifice their children future because of slight tax breaks or lower marginal tax rates.

We have a unique opportunity to rise above our short term desires and make some choices that will impact the health and welfare of our state for many year to come. It is not right that a state can take from our youth their future right to be successful in the coming years, to drive talented teachers to other professions or other states. Not to mention creating a state with a workforce that is not able to enter into the workplace of tomorrow (or even today).

I completely support your efforts to make increases to tax rates and taxable purchases to have all of us Arizonans all shoulder the burden of our states future. Arizona has helped lead the country in efforts to have high standards for our kids to give them aspirational goals for what the can (and should) be able to achieve, yet we hamstring the very institutions and people who have to be there to make these dreams a reality. Schools and education are the bedrock upon which the future of our state will be built, do not support efforts to weaken it.

Respectfully yours,
Samuel DeVore
