It’s time to play “What would an idiot do…”

Ok folks here’s the game, I give you the scenario and you tell me “What would the idiot do…”

Today’s scenario is:

“A person (don’t assume it’s me ;) takes a intel iMac (1.5 year old 17 inch) into the local Apple Store because of intermittent crashes, repeatable b-tree problems on the drive and a crashing video card with major overheating problems. Gets an estimate for a repair and its $1179.00 (current US dollars as weak as they are now).” So what does he do?

(additional information he has a client who is a apple reseller… also machine was fully backed up at time of failure)

Is this like a “lazyweb” question? ;)

If I were in said person’s shoes I’d probably not get it repaired–instead I’d get a brand new machine.

(I’m assuming the iMac wasn’t covered under AppleCare.)
